There has been lots of interesting sports news coming out of Stamford schools lately which I usually don’t post because we have an excellent Stamford sports blog. Here’s the link if you’ve never checked it out before!
In the meantime, here’s some news for this weekend:
King Varsity Football rushes into the limelight on Saturday when Madison Square Garden (MSG) Network films the Homecoming game and broadcasts the game the following day. In addition to taping the game in its entirety, the film crew will interview student-athletes and Coaches pre-and post-game.
The game, versus Kingswood-Oxford of West Hartford begins at 3 p.m. on Oct. 17. Viking athletes and fans are hoping for another thrilling Homecoming victory, much like last year’s shut-out against Rye Country Day.
Athletic Director Tom Decker hailed the event as a wonderful opportunity for the football team, as well as King. “This is a first for our school, and one never knows when this will happen again,” he said. Having the game televised will continue to bring the positive exposure that we all strive to bring to King, and our entire community.”
The game will be broadcast Sunday, Oct. 18, at 9. a.m. as MSG’s “High School Football Game of the Week.” The Alumni Association will hold a “Broadcast Breakfast” beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the US library. This viewing party is open to the entire King community.

On Saturday, volunteers from UBS will create an outdoor classroom at K.T. Murphy Elementary School. UBS is partnering with HandsOn Schools to create high-impact school projects in the company’s key market areas throughout the country with a focus on literacy. The Volunteer Center of SWFC has been chosen as project manager.
This outdoor classroom will benefit the entire school and will surely be in demand during the warmer months as many of K.T. Murphy’s classrooms are without air conditioning. The area chosen for this classroom has shade trees and attractive curved concrete benches will be installed for seating. UBS volunteers will be preparing the ground prior to installing the benches and will reseed the surrounding area.
Other UBS volunteers will be busy at work inside stenciling the hallways with vocabulary words. The project is taking place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and interested community members are invited to drop by and check on the progress. K. T. Murphy School is located at 19 Horton Street in the Cove section of Stamford.
