Federal Judge: Cheerleading is not a sport

In a decision that is going to rile up many, a Connecticut Federal Judge today ruled that cheerleading cannot be considered a sport.
Judge Stefan R. Underhill ruled that competitive cheerleading is not an official sport for schools looking for ways to meet Title IX gender-equity requirements.
Underhill said competitive cheerleading is too underdeveloped.

The FCIAC championship season is fast approaching and it kicks off on Saturday morning with the 2009 FCIAC cheerleading championships at Wilton High’s Zeoli Field House.
